Rodents, Wildlife & Stray Animals

The following are some tips for dealing with specific biological hazards:

Rodents, wildlife, and stray animals

  • The best tip is to leave plenty of distance between yourself and the animal.
  • Avoid contact with animal carcasses, if possible. If you must handle them, use proper PPE (such as gloves and masks). Dispose of them immediately in a proper manner. If your job involves such a task, your employer will provide you with instructions, appropriate tools and materials.
  • Wash thoroughly, especially your hands, if you do come in contact with an animal, or part or product of an animal.
  • If bitten or scratched, seek medical attention immediately.
