Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
When you have carpal tunnel syndrome, you may experience the following symptoms:
- Numbness or tingling in your thumb, index, and middle fingers
- Pain in your wrist, palm, or forearm
- Numbness or pain at night in your hand or arm
- Loss of grip strength
- Difficulty closing your grip, such as around a doorknob or a steering wheel
Women are more likely to develop carpal tunnel syndrome than men. The tendency to develop the syndrome can also run in families.
Carpal tunnel syndrome often responds to treatments like anti-inflammatory medication, steroid injections, or wearing a splint at night. When cases are severe, carpal tunnel surgery may be required.
