Recommended Care for Workers with Cold Illness

If a worker shows signs of cold stress illness or injury, the following actions should be taken immediately:

Administer first aid immediately. During this time, call 911 if the symptoms of hypothermia, frostbite, or trench foot worsen.
Seek medical assistance as soon as possible.
Make sure that someone stays with the worker.
If medical help is more than 30 minutes away, call 911 for additional rewarming and care instructions.
