Explosion & Fire Hazards - Prevention Measures
General safety precautions should always be implemented in addition to the process-specific preventative measures. To minimize the danger of explosions and fire, employers should do the following:
- Establish and implement an explosion and fire response plan.
- Train workers about how to protect themselves and prevent explosion and fire-related accidents.
- Supply workers with personal protective equipment such as heavy-padded, insulated, leather gloves, flame-resistant clothing, and respiratory protection.
- Locate an adequate amount of fire extinguishers and safety equipment in convenient locations throughout the work site.
- Inspect and maintain the machinery and equipment in explosion and fire prone work areas (such as gas chambers, oil tanks, and electricity rooms).
