Preventative Measures

Fortunately, best practice recommendations and preventative measures exist for all of the different health and safety hazards that workers in the oil and gas extraction industry face. Many of these measures are quite specific to a particular hazard or work process.

To assist employers in the oil and gas extraction industry with the critical task of protecting their workers, OSHA has developed an extremely helpful tool, OSHA's Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing eTool. This eTool identifies process-specific and task-specific hazards and provides possible solutions. A link to this invaluable tool is included in the additional resources at the end of this training course.

We will discuss recommended prevention measures in the upcoming sections that focus on specific safety and health hazards. Before we do that, however, let us take a look at some general best practice recommendations that employers in the oil and gas extraction industry should implement.
