Emergencies & Incidents
You should be briefed about what first aid support is available; make sure you know where it is located and what procedures to follow in an emergency.
Use the buddy system to aid and help each other, and be prepared for any emergency. Remain calm if one happens. Follow the worksite's emergency procedures described in the HASP.
If a serious emergency happens, immediately call your direct supervisor or 911, per your site's policy. Make sure you know your exact location, and provide as many details as possible.
If the victim is unconscious, check for a pulse and respiration. A trained person might need to start CPR.
Do not move an injured co-worker unless his or her safety is at risk.
For minor injuries or health concerns, follow any specified procedures. You may be directed to visit:
- first aid
- local hospital or clinic
- EMT or nurse station
Make sure your notify your supervisor, safety officer, or incident commander about all injuries, even minor ones, and exposure to hazardous materials at your site.
