More than likely, you will be working with or around a wide variety of heavy equipment around your work site. The types of hazards posed by such equipment will vary. You should be trained on the specific equipment and its hazards (such as hazardous emissions, crushing and pinning, noise, vibration, fire or explosion, leaking hazards substances, and other similar hazards.
The following are some general safety tips:
- Be alert to activities around you.
- Do not use equipment unless properly trained.
- Machinery might need to be inspected by a qualified worker before each use, depending on OSHA standards.
- Do not walk under heavy equipment lifting objects, or through the surrounding areas; do not walk behind equipment.
- Never climb onto or ride loads being lifted or moved, or ride on equipment or buckets.
