Hard Hat Classes
Hard hats fall into one of the following classes:
Class G (formerly Class A):
- For general service (mining, construction, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and so on)
- Good impact protection but limited voltage protection
Class E (formerly Class B):
- For electrical work
- Protects against falling objects and high voltage shocks and burns
Class C
- Designed for comfort but offers limited protection
- Protects against bumps into fix objects but does not protect against falling objects and electrical shock
The class designation changes from Class A to G and B to E are designated per standard ANSI Z89.1-1997.
