Hard Hat Classes

Hard hats fall into one of the following classes:

Class G (formerly Class A):

  • For general service (mining, construction, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and so on)
  • Good impact protection but limited voltage protection

Class E (formerly Class B):

  • For electrical work
  • Protects against falling objects and high voltage shocks and burns

Class C

  • Designed for comfort but offers limited protection
  • Protects against bumps into fix objects but does not protect against falling objects and electrical shock

The class designation changes from Class A to G and B to E are designated per standard ANSI Z89.1-1997.
