Head Protection
Head protection can provide protection against hazards such as:
- Falling objects
- Bumps or contact against fixed objects, beams, pipes, and so on
- Penetration
- Burns
- Electrical shock (contact with electrical conductors)
The most common type of head protection is the hard hat. Hard hats must be impact resistant and meet ANSI standard ANSI Z89.1-1986.
Hard hats must have a hard outer shell and a shock-absorbing lining. The lining should incorporate a head band and straps to suspend the shell from 1 to 1 ½ inches away from the wearer's head (to provide shock absorption from impact and ventilation).
