First aid is the emergency care given in response to an injury or sudden illness before professional emergency medical treatment is available. A qualified first-aid provider in any given occupation should be trained to deliver initial medical emergency procedures and to use limited equipment to perform an assessment and implement treatment while waiting for professional emergency medical service (EMS) personnel.
