State Laws
Many states and local governments have their own OSHA-approved plan that may go beyond the requirements of the OSH Act.
An employer must research and remain compliant with any local laws. For example, many local municipalities require certain occupational settings to have an automated external defibrillator (AED) and a person trained in its use on staff.
According to OSHA, there are currently 26 states with their own plans. Of those, 22 administer plans covering both the private and public sector employees; the plans of the other four states, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and the Virgin Islands, cover government employees only.
