Biological Hazards
Bodies of water can also be home to a variety of biological hazards, such as:
- Sharks, rays, and jellyfish (in sea water)
- Alligators and snakes (in fresh water), and
- Mosquitoes, which can carry disease (in stagnant fresh water)
Bacteria and waste can also be present in a wide variety of bodies of water.
Heat stress, exhaustion, and sunburn are also potential hazards. Water can reflect sunlight to raise the temperature above the water's surface and increase the chances of heat-related problems and sunburn.
