Drowning
The majority of drownings occur in fresh water (such as lakes, rivers and pools) while some occur in sea water. A few even occur in fluids other than water, but these typically involve a worker drowning in an industrially related type of fluid (such as falling into an open vat or tank).
This course will focus on drownings that can occur while workers are performing tasks in, near, or on water or fluids, such as working:
- On a boat, oil rig, platform, and so on,
- At heights over a body of water,
- As part of a spill cleanup crew,
- In confined spaces where liquid has collected or could collect, or
- Around containers of liquids such as vats, tanks, drums, and so on
