Employee Safety Responsibilities
Employees are important in hot work safety, because individual actions toward safety can go a long way to ensure a safe workplace. Workers involved in maritime hot work operations are exposed to many hazards. In addition to taking responsibility for understanding and addressing these hazards, employees must also immediately report all injuries, regardless of their severity.
This reporting can aid the employer in creating a safer work environment by providing information on incidents and accidents, and their causes. First skills are important as well. According to 29 CFR 1917.26, at least one employee holding a valid first aid certificate must be present in the maritime workplace when work in is in progress. A weatherproof first aid kit must also be made available.
