NFPA Standards
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has published standards for hot work fire prevention. This document, "NFPA 51B Standard for Fire Prevention during Welding, Cutting, and Other Hot Work," provides guidelines for avoiding the fire hazards associated with hot work activities. The NFPA is a U.S.-based trade association that creates and maintains private, copyrighted standards and codes for use and implementation by local municipalities. Mandatory provisions (such as, provisions containing the word "must" or other compulsory language) of the NFPA 51B standard have been incorporated into OSHA regulations by reference. The NFPA 51B standard can be accessed at the NFPA website.
