OSHA Part 1915 - Subpart B

Subpart B of OSHA's Shipyard Industry regulations discusses rules for work in confined and enclosed spaces such as cargo tanks or holds, pump or engine rooms, storage lockers, tanks, double bottom tanks, cofferdams, rooms within buildings, crawl spaces, tunnels, and accessways. The primary concern in any of these enclosed spaces is the atmosphere, which may contain air in which too little oxygen is present or in which too much oxygen is present. The atmosphere may also be flammable or toxic. Because of the dangers that confined spaces may present, employers are responsible for ensuring that these spaces are safe for workers.
