Section 1917.152 - Definition of "Hot Work" & Confined Spaces

Part 1917 defines "hot work" as riveting, welding, flame cutting, or other fire- or spark-producing operation. It specifies that hot work cannot be performed in a confined space until the atmosphere within the space has been tested as safe by a designated person.

In Part 1917, a "designated person" is defined as "a person who possesses specialized abilities in a specific area and is assigned by the employer to perform a specific task in that area."
