Subpart I - Section 1915

Subpart I of Part 1915 discusses personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. It states that in every instance in which an employee may be exposed to work activity hazards that require PPE, the employer must provide and ensure the use of the PPE.

This includes protection for the eyes, face, head, extremities, torso, and respiratory system; and includes protective clothing, protective shields, protective barriers, personal fall protection equipment, and life-saving equipment. Employers are also responsible for assessing the need for PPE, replacing damaged PPE, and sanitizing PPE that will be reassigned.

The employer must ensure that each employee understands how to use the equipment properly. In most cases, the employer, not the employee, is responsible for paying for the equipment. Specific PPE regulations are listed as well.
