Subpart P - Section 1915

The purpose of Subpart P is to describe employer requirements for protecting employees from fire hazards in shipyard employment. This protection must extend to those engaged in fire response activities.

Each employer must develop and implement a written fire safety plan. The written plan must cover all the actions that employers and employees must take to ensure employee safety in the event of a fire. The employer must also create and keep current a written policy that specifies requirements for employees performing the duty of watching for fires during hot work procedures, know as "fire watch".

A plan for responding to fires, should they occur, must also be developed and maintained. It is the employer's responsibility to ensure that orderly lines of authority are established so that internal fire response functions are well-coordinated.

All fire response personnel must be provided with PPE appropriate to their responsibilities. Subpart P also includes regulations regarding hazards of fixed extinguishing systems and landside fire protection systems.
