Credentialing
Hospital privileges are the responsibility of the hospital or other institutional governing board. Physicians who require privileges to use lasers should meet all the standards of their institution, including Board certification, Board eligibility, specialty training, ethical character, good standing, judgment, and existing interventional privileges in the specialty. For example, gynecologists requesting privileges for the use of lasers in laparoscopic surgery should already have privileges and experience in operative laparoscopy.
Office-based practices should establish protocols and procedures for internal credentialing. All protocols and procedures must comply with state laws. Methods for quality assurance should be implemented per the particular institution's guidelines.
