Safety Audits

It is the LSO's responsibility to supervise or to conduct and document a safety audit of the facility and safety features annually. Audits may be performed more often at the discretion of the LSO. They should include an examination of all equipment associated with the use of lasers, examination of the use areas, assessment of staff knowledge, and observation of procedures. The LSO should write or should require a written audit report. Any areas of laser safety that are revealed to be not in compliance with policy or standards should be corrected, and follow up actions should be documented. The results of safety audits may also be useful in fine-tuning safety awareness training programs.
