Regulations
Several different sets of safety regulations protect workers who perform tasks in confined spaces. The OHSprovides regulations that are applicable to all Canadian workers. The Ontario Ministry of Labour also gives workers access to knowledge and recommendations for working in confined spaces as well as with other hazardous situations.
The Canadian OHS Regulation 632/05 covers a wide range of requirements related to work in confined spaces. The standard includes considerations for the space itself, as well as preparations required before work can begin. Additionally, the regulations cover methods of safe access and egress, potential hazards and how to manage them, and rescue procedures in case of an emergency.
