Operator Safety - Preventing Injury

Even with every effort made to ensure an operator's safety and comfort, there is a risk of injury due to prolonged periods of equipment operation. These injuries are not due to crushing, impact, or other common hazards. Rather, they occur over time and affect an operator's bones, muscles, and joints. Always be sure that a lift truck operator is physically healthy enough to operate a lift truck in addition to being competent. The table on the following slide shows common musculoskeletal injury (MSI) risk factors, their common causes, and some prevention options.
