Hazardous Energy Programs

As we briefly covered earlier in the course, workplace safety is a requirement of Part II of the Canada Labour Code. Employers are required to ensure the health and safety of their employees.

Hazardous Energy Control Programs

Part of the requirements of workplace safety is creating and maintaining a program to effectively deal with the hazardous energy issues employees may face in the workplace. A hazardous energy control program should be tailored to the site-specific tasks and risks that employees will face in their daily routine.

Employees are required to adhere to the program in conjunction with any related compliance requirements of the industry, such as PPE.

  1. Gather information
  2. Perform a task analysis
  3. Perform a hazard and risk analysis
  4. Implement controls
  5. Train employees
