Refresher Training

Effective hazardous energy control programs give their employees refresher training periodically. Refresher training should be given to all applicable employees, at a minimum of once every three years. This ensures all employees maintain an appropriate level of understanding of the hazardous energy control program procedures.

Employees must receive additional training if they meet any of the following criteria:

  • Observation or inspection indicates that the individual is not complying with the hazardous energy program.
  • Changing or new technology, machinery, job assignment, or procedures necessitate the use of a hazardous energy control program that is different from the one the individual was trained on.
  • The individual must adhere to a hazardous energy control plan that is not normally used during their daily job duties.

Course content for refresher training must be based on known hazards and risk assessments for the planned work activities and conditions.
