Leveling
Leveling is the first step when preparing an area for surface mining. The purpose of leveling is to create even land so that drilling and blasting procedures may then take place. Vegetation is cleared first by a bulldozer before excavation begins. Usually, this vegetation is mixed with topsoil so that it can be used later to reclaim the land.
