Mine Communication

A surface mine communication system is important for sending and receiving routine messages; submitting operational requests, such as for supplies or assistance; and communicating accidents or other emergencies. MSHA regulations require that two-way communication systems be provided at several locations on a mine site. A communication facility is required on surface mines and surface areas of underground mines within 500 feet of all main portals. Someone must always be on duty in the communication facility when there are workers on the mine.
