Welding & Cutting Equipment
Welding and gas cutting equipment and activities can create a range of obvious and latent hazards, both of which equally impact the health and safety of miners. In order to reduce or remove the hazards associated with welding and cutting procedures, miners should follow these rules:
- Only properly trained competent persons should attempt welding and cutting operations.
- Welders must possess a hot work permit before attempting any operations.
- Welders should be trained to properly use fire extinguishers.
- Welders should only use the right equipment for the particular type of welding to be accomplished.
It is also important to consult the manufacturer or supplier of the welding equipment to ensure safe usage and proper maintenance.
