Conveyor Systems
Most conveyor systems move material, usually for processing. Other conveyor systems move personnel. All of these conveyors require miners to be cautious. Belt systems can snag loose clothing or pinch fingers. Falling on an operating conveyor is extremely dangerous. A miner may be delivered to a rock crusher or some other potentially fatal machine.
Sometimes conveyors require maintenance. Miners should use proper lock out/tag out procedures to prevent other personnel from activating conveyor systems during maintenance operations. Lock out/tag out procedures combine locks that prevent machine operation with temporary placards that warn personnel about the danger of operating a machine. Conveyor systems have places that block operators from seeing personnel. Consequently, lock out/tag out systems are important.
