First Aid
All mine employees should know basic first aid and CPR. If someone is injured, act quickly to deliver proper care.
First aid kits must be available in strategic locations around the mine. These should be easy to access and replenish when necessary. A good first aid kit contains the following, at a minimum:
- A stretcher for transporting people who are unable to walk
- A blanket for treating people in shock
- Enough bandages and sterile dressings of various types to treat open wounds
- Splints to immobilize broken bones
- Disinfectants
- Rubber gloves for persons delivering aid
- A barrier mask for performing artificial respiration
- Any other first aid material required to treat potential injuries based on the work being done
According to 30 CFR §56.1801, at least one person must be trained in first-aid application while mining activity is carried out. Mine operators must provide you with this training.
