Illumination & Night Work

Working at night and in dark places requires illumination. If there is not enough light, then other hazards, such as wet or slippery surfaces and moving equipment, can be harder to detect, and peripheral vision can be diminished as well. If working in the dark, ensure there is adequate lighting.

On the other hand, if illumination is too bright or poorly aligned, then glare can cause miners to overlook hazards.

Modern head lamps designed for miners can provide ideal task lighting.

Another illumination hazard is the presence of additional electrical equipment. As with all electrical components, use caution to avoid electric shock, especially in wet places.
