Machine Guarding

Some moving objects are equipped with machine guarding systems to protect workers. Machine guarding uses barriers to limit the potential for workers to contact moving machine parts such as gears, fan blades, and fly wheels. If a guard is available on a machine, use it. Do not attempt to operate a machine with a missing or damaged guard.

Guards are meant to protect people from inadvertent, careless, or accidental contact, as well as deliberate or purposeful work-related actions. Note that this does not include deliberate or purposeful non-work-related actions. That is why you should always use machinery the way it is intended to be used. Failure to comply with posted signs and user instructions can cause serious injury.
