Miners must learn how to use these systems correctly. Good communication helps warn people of danger, and it is one of the most important hazard protection tools.

Traffic Patterns and Control

Many surface mine injuries and fatalities are caused by haulage and mobile equipment. Traffic-control systems help ensure safe movement. Mines must establish rules that govern the speed, right-of-way, direction of movement, and the use of headlights to ensure visibility. Miners must understand these policies and follow them every time.

Signs and signals must be installed at appropriate locations.
