Common terms related to aerial boom lifts:
- A chassis is the integral component of the aerial lift, and it provides mobility as well as support for the elevating assembly.
- Powered functions are considered the functions that control the motion of the platform and are powered by hydraulic, pneumatic, or electromechanical forces.
- Outriggers are devices that increase the stability of the aerial boom lift platform and that are capable of lifting and leveling the platform.
- Stabilizers are devices that increase the stability of the aerial boom lift platform but that are not capable of lifting or leveling the platform.
- Rated work load is the designated capacity of the aerial boom lift as specified by the manufacturer.
