Aerial Lift Electric Shock Hazards

Electrocution is one of the most common causes of aerial lift fatalities. If you will be operating an aerial boom lift around electrical equipment or overhead wires, you should always consider electrical components as energized at all times. Hazards include:

  • Overhead Power Lines
  • Insulated Boom Lifts
  • Working with Power Tools
  • General Precautions

To consider these items safe and not energized, you must get appropriate clearance from a supervisor, who should confirm that the energized components have been grounded or deactivated using approved lockout/tagout procedures. Speak with your supervisor if you are not trained in your worksite's lockout/tagout procedures. This information is critical to ensure control of any hazardous energy or material around your work area.
