Aerial Lifts Electrical Hazards - Working with Power Tools
The metal frames on aerial boom lifts can conduct electricity. Therefore, power tools with cords that have loose wires or missing insulation can electrify the entire aerial boom lift, posing an electrocution risk to any worker in contact with the lift. Keep the following safety guidelines in mind:
- Inspect all equipment for faulty or missing insulation before use.
- Do not hang anything from equipment power cords.
- Never tamper with a three-pronged tool cord to make it work with a two-pronged extension cord.
- Do not place equipment on power cords where they could be cut or damaged.
- Do not place cords where they can be a tripping hazard to those on the platform.
