Aerial Lift Falling Objects

Workers should also take precautions when performing work on an aerial boom lift where there might be objects falling from above the lift. Special caution should be taken when working in areas with low overhead clearance, working during maintenance outages, using the lift for material handling, and working around damaged building structures.

  • The lift should be stabilized with outriggers to ensure that any larger objects striking the platform or the lift will not cause tipping or slipping of the lift.
  • You should always wear a hard hat when using an aerial boom lift. The employer must take protective measures to prevent falling object hazards.
