Inspection and maintenance records should be kept for all equipment. Although not defined by OSHA, the following list provides best practices for records retention:

For maintenance safety, the following precautions must be taken before repairs and adjustments are started:

  • Workplace inspection document - 4 years
  • Pre-start inspection documents - 4 years
  • Annual inspection documents - duration of ownership of equipment
  • Documents for all maintenance performed on the lift equipment - duration of ownership of equipment
  • Operator's manual acknowledgment forms - duration of ownership of equipment
