Aerial Lift Worksite Inspections
Each inspection of an aerial lift at the beginning of the work shift should be done in two parts: a functional inspection and a visual inspection. These inspections should include the following items:
- Operating and emergency controls
- Safety devices
- Personal protective equipment (personal fall arrest systems)
- Air, hydraulic, and fuel systems leaks
- Cables and wiring harness
- Loose or missing parts
- Placards, warnings, control markings, and operating manuals
- Outriggers, stabilizers, and other structures
- Guardrail system
- Items specified by manufacturer
In addition, inspections must be performed to check for possible hazard. The employer should have a checklist with descriptions of the items that need to be inspected and tested for proper operation before using the lift.
