Confined Space Hot Work, Welding, and Emergency Response
If you need to perform hot work or welding in a confined space, it is essential that you take further training to enhance safety within your work area. The risk for fatal injuries from welding is more than four deaths per 1,000 workers over a working lifetime.
The OSHA regulations cover the two main regulations for gas welding and arc welding, as well as hot work welding. If you are working with any of these welding types and do not follow safety measures, you can be exposed to the following:
- Toxic fumes generated by the hot work
- Fire and explosions caused by flammable or combustible materials or airborne gases, vapors, or particulates
- Eye damage from ultraviolet radiation generated from electric arcs
- Oxygen deficient environments from exposure to hazardous fumes or gases
