Aviation - Class 7 Acceptance and Carriage

§175.703 contains special requirements for the acceptance and carriage of Class 7 radioactive materials packages via airways.

These special requirements include the following regulations:

  • No person may accept packages of Class 7 materials, other than limited quantities, contained in rigid or non-rigid overpacks, fiberboard boxes, or plastic bags, unless they have been prepared for shipment in accordance with 172.403 (h).
  • Each shipment of fissile material packages must adhere to the requirements of §173.457 and 173.459.
  • Vented Type B (M) packages or liquid pyrophoric Class 7 radioactive materials must not be offered or accepted for transport.
  • Packages with radiation levels at the package surface or a transport index exceeding the limits specified in §173.441 (a) must not be transported by aircraft except under arrangements approved by an Associate Administrator.
