Aviation - Inspecting Shipments
No person must accept a hazardous material for transportation unless the regulations for inspecting shipments under §175.30 have been followed.
The operator must ensure that the hazardous material is:
- Authorized and within quantity limitations as specified within §172.101 and Subpart B of §175
- Described and certified by the appropriate shipping paper regulations
- Marked, placarded, and labeled appropriately
- Labeled with a "CARGO AIRCRAFT ONLY" label if the material is not permitted aboard passenger-carrying aircraft
No person must carry a hazardous material in a package, outside container, or overpack aboard an aircraft unless the packaging is inspected by the operator immediately before placing it aboard the aircraft and within a unit load device or pallet before loading it aboard the aircraft. The outer packaging must have no holes, leakage, broken seals, or any signs indicating that its integrity has been compromised. This does not apply to carbon dioxide solid, dry ice.
