Aviation - Overpacks
If the shipper uses an overpack to contain packages of hazardous materials, the proper shipping name, ID number, and any special handling markings on the inside packages must be clearly visible or reproduced on the outside of the overpacks. When specification packagings are required, the word "OVERPACK" must appear on the outside of the overpack.
Overpacks must not contain a package bearing the "CARGO AIRCRAFT ONLY" label unless:
- The overpack permits clear visibility and easy access to the package.
- The package contains a material that can be carried in an inaccessible location under the provisions of §175.75(e).
- Only one package is overpacked.
Regulations regarding the acceptance of overpacks are found in §175.30(e)(1-3).
