Aviation - Reports of Discrepancies

Discrepancies can be defined as hazardous materials that are improperly described, certified, labeled, marked, or packaged when accepted under the provisions of §175.30(a). This definition also includes packages or baggage that are found to contain hazardous materials after being offered and accepted.

Each person who discovers a discrepancy regarding HAZMAT must notify the nearest FAA Regional or Field Security Office via telephone or electronically as soon as possible. The following information must be provided:

  1. Name and telephone number of the person reporting the discrepancy
  2. Name of the aircraft operator
  3. Specific location of the shipment concerned
  4. Name of the shipper
  5. Nature of the discrepancy
  6. If known, address of the shipper or person responsible for the discrepancy by the air carrier
