Waterways - 49 CFR Part 176 Subpart A

Subpart A lists general requirements for the transport of hazardous materials. Hazardous material that is not prepared in accordance with §176, or falls under explosive material described in §173.54, must not be offered or accepted for transportation aboard a vessel.

Port Security and Safety Regulations

In addition to following requirements in Part 176, anyone engaged in handling hazardous materials on board vessels must comply with applicable provisions of 33 CFR Parts 6, 109, 110, 125, and 160. For more specific regulations involving port security and safety regulations see §176.4.

Applicable Vessels

Part 176 applies to every domestic or foreign vessel when in navigable waters of the United States; however, exceptions may be found in §176.5.
