Waterways - Class 1 Magazine Vessels

When in port, certain regulations for handling Class 1 - Explosive Materials must be followed. When handling these materials, you must ensure that you do not transport them in weather conditions that may seriously increase their hazards. Additionally, they must not be handled in the dark unless authorized by the COTP, and the area where loading is taking place must be illuminated with lighting that is sufficient to perform the handling operation.

No one is allowed to be intoxicated when handling Class 1 - Explosive Materials, and smoking is prohibited on the vessel while these materials are being handled or stowed, except in places designated by the master of the vessel. Conspicuous notices prohibiting smoking must be posted and clearly visible at all locations where Class 1 - Explosive Materials are being handled.
