Waterways - Class 1 Segregation
Class 1 - Explosive Materials must be segregated from other packaged hazardous materials in accordance with §176.83. For regulations concerning segregation within different compatibility groups, mixed loads, segregation of deck, and barges, see §176.144 (b-f).
Segregation in Single Hold Vessels
On board a single cargo hold vessel, Class 1 - Explosive Materials in hazard division or compatibility group 1.1B and 1.2B may be stowed in the same compartment with substances of compatibility group D provided certain provisions in §176.145 are met.
Segregation from Non-hazardous Materials
Class 1 - Explosive Materials do not need to be segregated from other cargo that is deemed not dangerous.
In order to avoid contamination, the following regulations found in §176.146 must be met:
- An explosive substance or article that has a secondary POISON hazard label must be stowed "separated from" all foodstuffs. Except when such materials are stowed in separate closed cargo transport units, the requirements for "away from" segregation apply.
- An explosive substance or article that has a secondary CORROSIVE hazard label must be stowed "away from" foodstuffs.
