Waterways - Dangerous Cargo Manifest
The carrier, its agents, and any person with similar job functions must prepare a dangerous cargo manifest, list, or stowage plan. This document must not include materials that do not align with the requirements within the HMR or the IMDG Code. It must be kept on or near the vessel's bridge, except when the vessel is docked in a U.S. port. If docked in a U.S. port, the document may be kept in the vessel cargo office or another location designated by the master of the vessel, as long as a sign is placed beside the designated holder indicating the location of the document. It must always be in a location that is readily accessible to emergency response and enforcement personnel and must contain the following information:
- Name of vessel and official number. (If the vessel has no official number, the international radio call sign must be substituted).
- Nationality of vessel.
- Shipping name and identification number of each hazardous material on board as listed in §172.101 or as listed in the IMDG Code, and an emergency response telephone number as prescribed in Subpart G of Part 172.
It must always be in a location that is readily accessible to emergency response and enforcement personnel and must contain the following information (continued):
- The number and description of packages (such as barrels, drums, cylinders, and boxes) and gross weight for each type of packaging.
- Classification of the hazardous material in accordance with either the HMT, §172.101 table, or the IMDG Code.
- Any additional description required by §172.203.
- Stowage location of the hazardous material on board the vessel.
- In the case of a vessel used for the storage of explosives or other hazardous materials, additional information found in §176.30(a)(8) must be included.
See §176.30 for further regulations regarding dangerous cargo manifests.
