Waterways - Inspection
Random and planned inspections are both required and habitual instances for vessels carrying HAZMAT. An enforcement officer of the U.S. Coast Guard can board the vessel at any time or place to inspect any shipment of hazardous materials, or to enforce any regulations listed in Part 176. The National Cargo Bureau, Inc., is authorized to assist the Coast Guard with the following:
- Inspection of vessels for suitability for loading HAZMAT
- Examination of stowage of HAZMAT
- Making recommendations for stowage requirements of hazardous materials cargo
- Issuance of certificates of loading stating that the stowage of hazardous materials is in accordance with the requirements in Part 176
