Waterways - Miscellaneous Stowage Requirements
Stowage of Chlorine
You must ensure that chlorine (UN 1017) is stowed separately from copper or brass leaf sheets and finely divided organic material.
Stowage of Division 2.1 Flammable Gas Materials
Division 2.1 flammable gas materials transported in Specification 106A or 110A multi-unit car tanks must be stowed on deck only and protected from sources of heat.
Smoking or Open Flame and Posting of Warning Signs
Smoking or the use of open flame is prohibited in or near any compartment containing a Division 2.1 flammable gas material, on deck, or near any ventilator leading to a hold containing this material. A sign must be conspicuously posted near any Division 2.1 material and must display the following information:
- FLAMMABLE VAPORS
- KEEP LIGHTS AND FIRE AWAY
- NO SMOKING
The sign must be painted on a white background using red letters, and the letters must be at least 8 cm (3 inches) high. These same requirements are applicable to Class 3 - Flammable and Combustible Liquid Materials.
